You can quickly start or stop a cleaning cycle, schedule it, and modify the settings of the device with the app.

4. Shark ION Extended

Shark's top-of-the-line self-emptying robotic vacuum The ION XL is an excellent choice for people looking for hands-free cleaning and the highest level of performance. The vacuum comes with a big bin that can store the equivalent of a month's worth dirt and the base can be programmed to automatically empty it at the end of each cleaning session for longer-term storage. The ION XL is one of the top robot vacuums on the market for both hard and carpeted flooring, and it can also sweep and mop your floor. It can be controlled using an app or voice commands, and you can create the map of your house to clean each room on demand. The robot also does great job getting around furniture and even traverse stairs and rooms that are fully carpeted with ease.

I tried the ION XL using our standard debris test in a family room as well as a kitchen with hardwood floors and area rug. It was excellent at vacuuming, clearing pet hair and Self-emptying robot vacuums debris off the floors, and even picked up some of the more difficult crumbs that accumulated on carpets. It was also adept at maneuvering and didn't bump into my barstools like the iRobot J7+ did in this test. The only downside is that the IONXL cannot detect toys, cords and shoes that may be in its path so you will have to pre-clean your house before using this vacuum to stay clear of these items.

The ION XL robotic cleaner isn't as sophisticated as the iRobot J7+ but it's a good option if you do not want to spend over $500 on a robotic. It's better than the eufy RoboVac 11S, in many ways. It's more easy to maintain and has lower monthly costs. It's also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and picking up pet fur, but isn't as good on low- or higher-pile carpet.

It's also not as sturdy as the Roborock S8, but it is still a very solid option. The ION XL is a powerful machine with a huge capacity bin. It can be operated by an app or voice command, and is simple to maintain. It's also a great price.
