Technology

Bentley's engineering expertise is a critical asset in tackling infrastructure projects but the company is also relying on technology to meet rising workload demands. Bentley Systems, at its 2022 Year in Infrastructure event, presented a new line of products that use digital twins and cloud-based data to enable faster and more accurate project delivery.

For example, Bentley's advanced additive manufacturing (AM) system can transform 3D models created by CAD into physical components. The technology was used to produce everything from on-the-job assisted tools for Bentley's colleagues in manufacturing to historical accurate tools for restoring its woodshop's iconic look and also a light block for sanding that was used to create Bentley cars driven in record-breaking time at the Pikes Peak Challenge.

A number of enhancements to Bentley's ProjectWise platform were announced with the announcement of new digital component reuse capabilities; enhanced capabilities for civil design review and advance design validation and the Drive Simulation tool to experience the driving capabilities of a design and ensure the correct sight lines; and the ability to integrate multiple project file formats within the same workspace for collaborative design reviews. Bentley also announced the new Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, a suite of integrated solutions that span the entire infrastructure project lifecycles.

The new solutions include an iTwin Bridge Monitoring solution that uses drone video and iTwin Capture to provide real-time bridge inspections, as being able to track and monitor the performance of the bridge using IoT sensors layered on digital twins; and a Dam Monitoring solution that provides unidirectional access to sensors' information. Bentley is also integrating its iTwin platform with the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) to help users meet sustainability requirements.
