1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is a great choice for many households. It comes with a fantastic navigation system that includes GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with numerous features and controls accessible via the app. It also has a handy feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas that you do not want it to go. Like all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's costly however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It's got a huge battery that can sweep the entire house in less than two hours. Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, gorgeous design and great navigation. There are a few niggles in its operation that prevent it from being named the best smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping system that makes use of LIDAR to map an area and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). 4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but has a few more features and better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 2D and 3-D maps of your house and makes use of them to navigate and avoid obstructions. It can even detect common obstacles like power cords and furniture legs in real time. This combination of sensors along with a bump sensor, and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it off stairs make it one of the most agile vacuums we've tested.

In our tests, it easily climbed over thick shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were impressive as well as its score for composite tests on carpet and bare floors topped the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are more basic than competitors. There's an uniform cleaning button on the top, and you can start it from the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, designate no-go zones, and look up its cleaning history. Covered in stylish dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and is attractive in your home. It also has more advanced automation features than many competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary lines with its mobile app. Although its application is a bit slow and the 980 may spin out a bit when moving over cables, it's an extremely efficient robot vacuum.
