The Shark IQ XL is a excellent vacuum cleaner. It does a great job of cleaning floors with no dust and can move well. However the Shark IQ XL feels a slightly less sturdy than the Roomba 694. It is able to remove a lot of debris on unfinished floors and does a good job at maneuvering itself however it isn't even close to the iRobot Roomba i7 in regards to performance on carpeted floors. The i7 is also more robust and feels more durable. It is sturdy, has less maintenance requirements, is able to charge lower monthly costs, and charges faster while offering comparable battery performance and the most advanced automation features such as no-go zones and the ability to select specific rooms for a clean.

4. iRobot J7+

This robot vac/mop combo is a rare find, because it can do both tasks very efficiently. iRobot Combo j7+ has all the smarts and features similar to its j7 counterpart including LiDAR map and self-emptying. But it also offers additional features for vacuuming and mopping.

The j7+ uses the new acoustic sensor to identify the floor type and allows it to mop or vacuum the room during its initial pass. It also uses this info to prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpet or rugs over those with hard floors.

The J7+ is quieter than the majority of robotic vacuum self emptying vacuums when it's in use and even more quiet when it's mopping. The maximum reading of 64 decibels on our decibel meter is similar to office chatter.

In our tests, the j7+ performed admirably on both hard and carpeted floors, and it cleaned up most of the dirt we threw at it. It has a hard time dealing with pet hair, large pieces of debris and sand. But it can clean them with a little more effort. It also has decent navigation capabilities and a pair of cliff sensors that stop it from falling down a flight of stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.

We did notice some minor issues with the j7+, mainly that it can get caught on cords and carpets, and it doesn't always turn off its mopping when done vacuuming. This is a great model that ticks off all the boxes.

iRobot j7+ has also one of the best auto-emptying systems we've ever examined. It dumps its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, and it automatically emptys for you. This helps to reduce the amount of trash you'll need to dispose of and you'll only have to replace the reusable dust bag that is on the dock every 60 days or so, depending on how often you use the J7+.
