The WH-1000XM4s is also able to connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and then automatically switch between them as needed. You enable this feature through the Sony Headphones Connect app and it works very well.

A subtle improvement over the XM3 is the sensibility of their touch panels. They respond faster to tapping on the panel and are much easier to control when making a call or listening to media. Sony has added a feature to make voices more precise and clear during calls. This is a noticeable and pleasant addition.

While the WH-1000XM4s aren't perfect, they're one of the most comfortable wireless headphones we've ever tested. They're comfortable and well-constructed, and come with a batteries that last for more than 30 continuous hours. They can be used passively by using an TRS cable. This is great for travel or preserving power.

The WH1000XM4s offer a better alternative to the Bowers & Wilkins Wireless Over-Ears PX7 S2. The Sonys are more comfortable and their ANC can block out more ambient noise. They also have a companion application that lets you adjust their audio performance and EQ settings are more flexible than B&W's. However, the B&Ws come with an improved design, and they're able to pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. They also support aptXHD and have an AI-driven engine which tries to increase the size of compressed music to high resolution. Despite their reputation as comfortable headphones, the QC45s do not provide the best sound quality at this price. The upper registers are boosted which is acceptable for most music genres but could be a problem for more delicate and complex genres. The bass is decent but it lacks the punch.

One feature that's missing is the ability to pause playback whenever you take off the headset. This is a standard in this price bracket and is something Bose's competitors have offered for a long time. Another oversight is the absence of an in-app EQ. Bose offers preset EQ settings in the app however it would be nice to have a manual control.

The latest pair improves on the previous generation with a sleeker design, improved gesture controls and massive battery life.

The improvements are subtle, but make for a pair of over ear headphones that feel like an upgrade. The Momentum 4s are flat and do not fold. They come with a hardshell case to protect them while traveling. The Momentum 4s are device-agnostic, like many other Bluetooth headphones from recent times, like the ones from Bowers & Wilkins and Sony. This means they work with both Android phones and Apple iPhones, but do not come with the extra features (like Find My support and head-tracked Spatial Audio) that are available on the AirPods.

The most significant difference is the massive battery that can run for up to 60 hours with noise cancellation turned on.
