Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is able to provide private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate several times before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential for parents to participate in this titration process and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed, you will be able to book appointment with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call but in certain circumstances it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any cost of medication.

The doctor will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any relationship issues you might be facing or any other mental health problems that you may be experiencing. ADHD is a genetic condition, and it's vital to look into your family's history in order to determine if you are at a greater chance of developing this condition.

During this assessment it is vital that you are truthful and honest with your doctor in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine if you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step because the wrong diagnosis can result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD we'll schedule a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this field. We also recommend that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic, you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication
