Being equipped with the right tools is crucial when working in the field. This kit is designed to meet that need and includes all the basic hand tools needed to repair items in the field. The tools are made of steel with a minimum of plastic to ensure they will stand up to use. The kit comes with an afghan-like pouch with zippered for coalcracker tools, a twist awl, reamer and cutting shears and Gimlets (5MM). It also comes with a bottle of coalcracker oil, illustrated directions and a wooden spool the reamer and twisted an awl.

Repair Patches

If you've got a hole or two in your gears, consider adding some adhesive patches to your avon rep starter kit kit. These patches are made of high-performance glue applied on a tough polyurethane backing that allows a tear caused by pressure to recover. Available in clear or colored options they offer a long-lasting protection against punctures, moisture, saltwater, sunlight and temperature extremes.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, you might want to consider including a bag of waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight adhesive will bond to metals and fabrics for an unbreakable fix. This glue is ideal for repairing drysuits and can also be utilized in the field. Let the sealant cure for at least 12 hours prior to using the repaired equipment.

The essential field repair kit for nylon tents with silicone impregnated, packs, rainwear and more. It includes one Clean Tape repair patch as well as an swatch of sil-nylon. Also included is a 1/4 ounce of Gore-Tex Repair Adhesive and Sealant Sealant tube and brush. To use, place patch on a smooth, clean surface of the damaged area with at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub it with moderate finger pressure (adhesive side down).

Surface prep is important to ensure successful repairs. Oils on shoes or boots, sunblock or solvents like acetone can impact adhesion. For the best results, you should apply Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed curing to 2 hours.

Adhesive patches

These patches are ideal for those who don't want to be waiting until they are back on the trail. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches and apply the patch.

Clean the area thoroughly, then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface which aids in gluing. Apply a thin layer of glue over the patch. Cover an area which is at the very least large as the patch. Allow a few minutes for the glue to harden before pressing the patch down and holding it firmly in the place.
