Buying a Robot Vacuum That Mop

A robot vacuum can help you clean your floors more easily. This is especially true if have hard floors in your home and you want to cut down on the Swiffer pads you have to buy or get rid of.

Find models that are simple to install and maintain. This includes charging and emptying the water tank, removing and replacing cleaning pads.

1. Object Avoidance

Robot vacuums are excellent in spotting obstacles large like furniture legs, walls and pet toys, but they also overlook smaller objects that are pushed around in the course of cleaning. This is a concern that most robots have and can cause a mess when they are caught in something they should not. Robots that vacuum and mop that have object-avoidance systems utilize sensors (like cameras, lasers or LIDAR) to detect and avoid small objects that are on the ground.

Most of the robots that we tested with this feature used the aid of a laser to guide the robot and avoid obstacles. However, some also utilize cameras to recognize the floor's layout and draw an imaginary map of the area. These maps allow you to define boundaries and mop zones. Mapping technology is among the main advantages of a robot that mops especially if you live in a home with lots of furniture or intricate floor plans. During our testing, the iRobot Combo j7+ used a combination of LIDAR and a front-facing camera in order to stay clear of obstacles that were in its path. This smart feature, called PrecisionVision works in mopping and sweeping modes, and is a great example of how some robots are becoming more adept in understanding what they're seeing on the floor as they work.

The robot was effective in avoiding large objects, but not than that at detecting smaller objects such as USB cords and sockballs. This is a problem that we see with most robotic mop machines. The good news is there are many options on the market which perform better.

Some mop heads make use of a special wand to spray water onto floors, whereas others come with an oscillating head that does the work with a more gentle drip, and not as powerful streams of water. Look for a model with an air flow that is low-pressure to limit damage.

2. Water Reservoir

The majority of robot mops come with a disclaimer that they're intended to be used on stubborn sticky, sticky, or set-in staining. The good news is that even the vacuum cleaner that is able to do both is not as effective at getting rid of these stains as a mopping robotic.

We suggest a model with a self-emptying port that will place the cleaning pads in the empty container. This will prevent you from having to make numerous trips to the garbage bin.

A mopping robot's ability to return its dirty tanks back to the dock to be cleaned and dried is another important feature. The majority of the models we tested did be able to do this, which can save you time in your cleanup routine. However, it's important to note that you will need to manually empty the dirt and cleaning solution tanks and wash disposable pads according to the manufacturer's instructions after each mopping session. This will prevent mildew and other harmful bacteria from developing in the moist, dark space under the bot.
